Retract 'ill-motivated' land bribe claim against NIA boss – Asare to Agyapong

Member of Parliament for Assin Central Kennedy Agyapong must withdraw an allegation he made against the Executive Secretary of the National Identification Authority (NIA) Professor Ken Attafuah, US-based Ghanaian Professor, Kwaku Asare, has said.

According to him, the allegations made by Mr Agypong are unsubstantiated and ill-motivated.

Mr Agyapong accused Mr Attafuah of taking bribe in the form of a land in connection with the $1.2 billion Ghana Card contract.

Commenting on this development on his Facebook page, Prof Asare said: “Legislators must not use their media access to make malicious unsubstantiated allegations against public officers. Kennedy Agyepong must withdraw his unsubstantiated, ill-motivated bribery allegations against Professor Kenneth Attafuah, immediately.

“Parliament is quick to summon those who accuse MPs wrongfully but seems willfully blind to legislators who have specialised in character assassination of others via unsubstantiated corruption charges.”

Meanwhile, Prof Attafuah has denied the claim.

He said: “I have not received a gift of land, cash or any other object of valuable consideration from any person for any work I have done or will do in future. I have not stolen any money from anyone. I have, on the contrary, acted with utmost integrity and professionalism and served the best interests of Ghana with my best intellect and best industry in my capacity as Ag. Executive Secretary of the NIA.

“I will put anyone asserting the contrary, including their agents, privies or assigns who gives the platform for these vituperative and utterly defamatory statements to be made, to the strictest proof.”
