MANCHESTER UNITED star Paul Pogba seems to think people have a false impression of his relationship with Jose Mourinho.
Mourinho made Pogba his most expensive signing ever when he brought the midfielder back to the Premier League in the summer of 2016.
But the Portuguese gaffer is yet to see the 25-year-old live up to the £89m fee United handed Juventus to re-sign him.
Jose Mourinho picked the likes of Scott McTominay over Pogba at times this season and that came amid rumours of a rift between the duo.
Pogba has now discussed the relationship he shares with Mourinho, suggesting everything is not as it may seem from the outside.
“I would just say, because they’re not inside, they see what they see,” Pogba told Bleacher Report.
“They see us doing the talking, they straight away think it’s a problem. But if people think there’s a problem, what does that mean? It means maybe they want me to play.
“Mourinho, you know, he won with different clubs—he won so many titles. You cannot deny it. That’s his job. That’s what made him big like that.”
Pogba hinted he has sometimes deviated from Mourinho’s instructions though after realising he is in control of his on-pitch actions.
“But the players, they’re the ones on the pitch,” Pogba added. “The coach tells you something and you do something else — you’re on the pitch. And then it hits you. You’re the one who has the last word.”
Paul Pogba also suggested he would be under less scrutiny if he played in the USA rather than Europe.
“In America, it is more freedom in their sport,” said Pogba, when asked if he would prefer playing in a system where coaches are less dominant than star players.
“It’s not about the look, not about this outside, but about what they do. You know?
“The American guy is, like, free. He can wear what he wants and they don’t judge him on this. And I really like that. It’s more freedom in their sport. Yeah, more freedom in their sport.”
