After defeating seeded Kumasi SHS, St Louis SHS have become the second girls’ school to qualify for the NSMQ2018 quarterfinals.
They scored 43 points to oust Kumasi High, who followed with 40 points leaving third-placed Armed Forces SHTS wobbling 19 points behind in the ‘Kumasi derby’.
Kumasi SHS looked like they will tow the line of other seeded after round one by taking the lead although with a small margin.

The two-point margin then proved too small to be defined as favourites after St Louis caused the much-anticipated upset in Round Two to lead Kumasi SHS by 7 points.
After unimpressive scores in the Problem of the Day for all the teams, St Louis still led after Round Three, accumulating 30 points, the exact points they scored in the prelims to place second and which was enough to push them through as a high scoring losing school.
After the True/False round, the two favorite teams were tied at 37 points, leaving Armed Forces SHTS who were now defined as underdogs trailing with 18 points.
St Louis just proved how smart they were by grabbing the lion share of the speed round riddles to show Kumasi SHS the red card and secure the envious seeded position.
Armed Forces contestants ended the game with 21 points; not impressive considering that they scored 38 points in the prelims, much better than other schools.
