Akufo-Addo Donates Salary To SHS Student

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has donated his one month’s salary to a student competing in a business idea competition.

President Akufo-Addo has promised to top up the package to be given to 19-year-old Vanessa Aisha Limann in the competition dubbed: “Presidential Pitch”.

“…By the way, that is one month’s salary. My take home pay is GH₵29,000”, President Akufo-Addo revealed his salary at the event. The competition is aimed at realizing Government’s ambition of helping to unleash an entrepreneurial revolution in the country.

At the end of the competition, the top 10 winners will receive support from government, to the tune of GH₵ 50,000 each. Ms Limann is the youngest in the competition from Gwollu in the Sissala West District of the Upper West region.



“In you, the contestants I have met today, the future of the Ghanaian private sector is extremely promising… I hope the other contestants will excuse me if I single-out the youngest amongst you, the 19-year old young lady from Gwollu in the West Sissala District, Vanessa Aisha Limann, for special attention, and a personal donation of GH₵25,000 from me, in addition to the GH₵50,000 the Ministry is to give her,” he added.

The President’s Pitch was opened to Ghanaians between the ages of 18 and 35 years, with business ideas that are feasible, innovative, scalable and impactful. Two thousand entries were received in total from various sectors including agro-processing, ICT, engineering, tourism, textile, sanitation and transportation, among others.

The 20 selected individuals will be given mentors and attached to various businesses and others will also be stationed at incubator hubs and given a working space to develop their ideas. At the end of the competition, 10 winners will be given support by government to the tune of GHS 50,000 each.
