President Akufo-Addo has ordered the Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko to dissolve the governing board of the Ghana Cylinder Manufacturing Company Limited.
The directive comes on the back of a frosty relationship between the Chief Executive of GCMCL Frances Essiam and the Board after the latter ordered her to step aside.
Madam Essiam was ordered by the board to step aside over some of her decisions since assuming the post last year.
The Board, in the interim, then appointed the Technical Director of the company, Mr. Ezekiel Mensah to act in the absence of Madam Essiam.
The directive of the Board, however, was suspended by the Energy Ministry, during a meeting between officials of the Ministry and members of the Board.
The Ministry subsequently in a statement announced the constitution of a three-member investigatory committee to probe the impasse at the GCMCL.
A letter ordering the dissolution of the Board sighted by Starrfmonline.com read in parts that “His Excellency President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has directed that the necessary steps be taken to dissolve the Board of Ghana Cylinder Manufacturing Company Limited in accordance with the provisions of the Companies Act and the Company’s Regulations.
“In this regard you are kindly requested to take note of the directive as in paragraph one (1) above and act accordingly.
“Please ensure that all documents and items belonging to the Board are handed over to the Company Secretary.
“Meanwhile, please accept the gratitude of the President for the services you rendered to the nation.”
