Your whole life is a mockery of ‘probity & accountability’ – Mpiani to Rawlings

Rawlings’ killing of people for taking state loans of 50 cedis (now some 50,000 cedis equivalent) and not paying, but turning around to himself collect $2 million dollars (then valued around 200Billion cedis) from Sani Abacha as a gift to Ghana without accounting for it is a mockery of ‘Probity and Accountability”.

This, MyNewsGh.com can report, is the express opinion of former Chief of Staff during the J.A Kufuor administration Kwadwo Mpiani who is saying that former President Jerry John Rawlings’ whole life is a mockery of his mantra of ‘Probity and Accountability’ which has found its way as the credo of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

“Killing people for using their positions to take loans of ¢50,000?”, Mr Mpiani asked in total shock.

In an interview observed by MyNewsGh.com’s Nana Yaw Adom, Mr Mpiani said Rawlings took money on behalf of the people of Ghana from Abacha, a former Nigerian Kleptocrat and instead of placing the money into the account of the state, he pocketed it.

“He (Rawlings) initially came back protesting when Hackman Owusu Agyemang brought the issue up in Parliament in 1998 but later came back to say he collected $2 million … so what is it about probity and accountability?” Mpiani told JoyNews’ Raymond Acquah in an interview.

He questioned how the money was used, especially when according to him, Rawlings has killed many people for less an offence.

“Which state department did the money go to? Fortunately for us, as a state we have an account where state monies collected are put, so which of them was the money put into?’ he asked Rawlings, who has been silent on the money except to say that it was not 5 million but rather 2million.
