Radio personality and musician Abubakari Ahmed also known as Blakk Rasta in showbiz has intensified calls for president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government to legalise the use of Marijuana or ‘weed’ in the country
The Radio presenter who hosts the ‘Taxi Driver’ show on Zylofon Fm in Accra wants the government to include the cultivation and processing of weed in the 1 district 1 factory initiative
He is convinced marijuana cultivation and export can tremendously help boost the country’s economy and create jobs for the youth.
Mr. Ahmed expressed worry that government is not taking the issue of legalising the ‘herb’ as marijuana is popularly known in the Rastafarian realm seriously
He said the seizure of large quantities of marijuana by security agencies from parts of the country was ample indication that the crop will do well if cultivated on a large scale, adding that immediate steps must be taken by government to analyze and conduct feasibility studies on the value of the crop and how much it can contribute to the economy
The move he pointed out will be one of the processes of ‘thinking outside the box’ in government’s quest to raise revenue for national development, particularly in an era when the president and his government are touting a ‘Ghana beyond Aid’
