Akufo-Addo needs time to repair what you destroyed in 8 years – Konadu tells NDC

Former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings has opened up on why she decided to leave the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Mrs. Agyeman-Rawlings turned her back of the NDC – a party foundered by her husband Jerry John Rawlings – just before the 2016 elections.

She went ahead to form the National Democratic Party (NDC), and has since been an avid critic of the NDC.

According to her, she had to leave the largest opposition party because “… I am somebody who believes in honesty and hard work. As things started changing I advised myself.”

She explained that the NDC lost focus whiles in power, insisting the foundations of decency on which the party was built were no more.

Speaking on the Personality Profile show on Accra-based Joy FM, she said: “We reached that level where the respect for the founder was not there.”

She added that she was very “happy” to see the NDC return to opposition after losing the 2016 elections to Nana Akufo-Addo and the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

According to her, under the NDC things were fast deteriorating in the country to the extent that it left the state “miserable”.

“I am happy there is a change… I am very happy…because you can’t have a situation where we claim to be doing well, calling ourselves lower-middle income group, and in a miserable situation,” Mrs. Agyeman-Rawlings stated.

She further took a swipe at the NDC following complaints from their members that the ruling party has not done enough to transform the country since being voted to power.

She said the opposition party cannot expect the ruling NPP to use 100 days to fix an economy which was destroyed in eight years.

“A party has taken eight years to destroy us and you expect somebody to use 100 days to fix it?” she rhetorically asked.
