Ken Agyapong to reappear before Privileges Committee today

The Member of Parliament for Assin Central constituency, Kennedy Agyapong, is expected to reappear before Parliament’s Privileges Committee today over his purported contemptuous utterances against the House.

This will be the committee’s second public hearing on the alleged contemnor’s case.

The first hearing ended inconclusively after some members of the committee recused themselves for reasons of possible bias.

The three including MPs for Gomoa Central, Agona West and Upper Denkyira West have subsequently been replaced on the committee.

The maverick Legislator in a radio interview last month, reportedly described Parliament as “useless” for having Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu as its Majority leader.

The uncomplimentary statement moved the Minority Chief whip, Muntaka Mubarak, to file a motion which resulted in Ken Agyapong being referred to the Privileges Committee.

The Privileges Committee at its initial meeting established a prima facie case against Mr Agyapong, hence his invitation by the committee.

The committee is expected to continue the cross-examination of both Mr. Agyapong and Muntaka Mubarak today
