CHELSEA star Willian may yet join Manchester United this summer, according to reports.
Chelsea star Willian is on Manchester United’s list of transfer targets with the Red Devils primed to miss out on Real Madrid’s Gareth Bale.
Bale was initially earmarked as a priority target, but Express Sport understands the Wales international is now expected to stay at Real Madrid.
Chelsea are reluctant to let Willian leave this summer, with Barcelona also interested in the Manchester United transfer target.
But Football London claim the 29-year-old may yet make the move to Old Trafford.
Willian knows Jose Mourinho well, having spent three years working under the Portuguese at Chelsea.
Mourinho coaxed the best from the winger with successors Gus Hiddink and Antonio Conte consequently benefitting.
United are understood to be desperate to sign a wide player, with Willian now looking easier than Bale.
However, Football London suggest the decision to replace Antonio Conte with Maurizio Sarri may have changed matters.
Sarri was finally announced as Conte’s successor earlier this month.
And it is said that, if the Italian had stayed in charge of the west London side, then Willian would likely have sealed a move away.
The player clashed repeatedly with Conte during the closing stages of the Italian’s spell and the decision to axe him could now work in their favour.
Sarri is now hopeful of keeping Willian – as well as Real Madrid targets Eden Hazard and Thibaut Courtois.
He recently said: “It’s a pleasure to have Courtois, to have Willian, to have Hazard, but it [their futures] doesn’t depend on me, not only on me.
“So, we have to wait. I’m confident.”
Should United miss out, Croatia duo Ivan Perisic and Ante Rebic may join instead.
