Tottenham transfer news: Mauricio Pochettino must keep four players – Dimitar Berbatov

TOTTENHAM must keep hold of star trio Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen ahead of next season.
That’s the verdict of former Spurs striker Dimitar Berbatov, who believes Mousa Dembele will continue to be crucial for Mauricio Pochettino’s side too.

Tottenham are yet to make their mark in this summer’s transfer market but business is likely to be on the cards before the window shuts.

Tottenham chief Daniel Levy will be eager to ensure there are no outgoings though as clubs across Europe look to bolster their squads.

Kane is thought to be on Real Madrid’s radar following the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo, while Alli, Eriksen and Dembele have been linked with moves as well.
Berbatov reckons Tottenham have to retain the quartet’s services as Pochettino seeks to build on last season’s third-place finish.

“In Tottenham’s case it’s not who they’re signing it’s who they need to hold on to,” said Berbatov.

“For me they obviously need to keep Harry Kane, Alli and Christian Eriksen; they are the triangle of players that cause the most danger and trouble for opposing teams.

“Overall Spurs are strong in every position, but to make it work they also need to keep Mousa Dembele as he is the link between defence and attack.”

However, Berbatov says Tottenham may struggle to convince Kane to stick around in the future.

“I don’t see Kane leaving for Real Madrid, not now,” Berbatov added.
“The club will have a new stadium soon which shows their ambition and the squad is built on top of a solid foundation.

“He’ll stay and fight for silverware for now, but further in the future, I cannot be sure.”

Tottenham will be eager to follow up Thursday morning’s battering of Roma by beating Barcelona on Saturday.

Pochettino’s men take on the La Liga giants at Los Angeles’ Rose Bowl Stadium.

Dimitar Berbatov has been announced as a global ambassador for Betfair. You can read more from the former Bulgaria international here.
