REAL MADRID are preparing to offer Keylor Navas a new contract – despite wanting to sign Thibaut Courtois.
The Spanish outfit have looked set to finally sign a new goalkeeper this summer after years of chasing a number of Premier League shot-stoppers.
Courtois, Hugo Lloris and David de Gea have all been linked with a move to Madrid at one point.
But recently it has looked like the Chelsea star may be nearing his eagerly-awaited return to the Spanish capital.
However, according to Costa Rican outfit La Nacion, Navas is set to be rewarded with a new contract from new boss Julen Lopetegui, casting doubt over whether he will be the No.1 or Courtois’ back-up.
The former Spain manager’s arrival may have worried some Madrid players but Lopetegui is clearly a fan of Navas after actively pursuing him during his time as Porto boss.
La Nacion report the duo have already sat down for talks regarding a new contract, where the 31-year-old was told in no uncertain terms that he has a part to play this season.
Navas was approached about a new two-year extension before jetting off to the World Cup last month.
And the former Levante No 1 is likely to sign on the dotted line after being assured over his future.
Meanwhile, Courtois seems adamant to push through a move to Madrid either this summer or next.
The Belgian has no intention of signing a new contract at Stamford Bridge, meaning he will be a free agent in less than 12 months time.
Courtois is said to favour a move to Madrid so he can be closer to his family.
