Man Utd transfer news: Ed Woodward exploring Harry Maguire alternatives amid deal concerns

MANCHESTER UNITED chief Ed Woodward is reportedly holding talks with several clubs amid doubts they will sign Harry Maguire from Leicester.
Manchester United supremo Woodward has been challenged by manager Jose Mourinho to complete two signings before the transfer window shuts on August 9.

The Red Devils have endured a difficult summer so far, missing out on several targets and failing to get want-away stars such as Anthony Martial and Matteo Darmian off the books.

Manchester United are, however, pressing ahead with their plans to bring in reinforcements ahead of the Premier League season.

And the Daily Mail say Woodward is holding talks with ‘several clubs’ as doubts over a deal for Maguire begin to creep in.

Initially, United wanted to sign Tottenham powerhouse Toby Alderweireld.
The Belgium international lost his place in Spurs’ starting XI to Davinson Sanchez last year and, as a result, a transfer away could beckon.

However, the trail has supposedly gone cold with Tottenham yet to hear back from United since talks over a deal started in May.

Since then, attention has turned from Maguire. For all the rumblings of the Leicester star wanting to move to Old Trafford, both the player and his representatives have so far made no comment on those claims.

It is also understood that Leicester will offer him a pay rise to keep him at the King Power Stadium.

And the Daily Mail say that, as a result, Woodward is now branching out by negotiating with other clubs instead.
One player who could sign is Barcelona bulldozer Yerry Mina, whose stock has risen after a fine World Cup in Russia.

And another defender linked has been Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly.

But, like Maguire and Alderweireld, he is likely to command a huge fee.

Woodward is in a race against time to conclude United’s business with the Premier League transfer window slamming shut on August 9.
