MANCHESTER UNITED boss Jose Mourinho has told Paul Pogba he can leave Old Trafford – all he has to do is ask for a transfer.
Mourinho and Pogba had numerous bust-ups last season, with the United boss benching his £89m midfielder after a poor run of form.
The Special One made the France international, who won the World Cup in Russia this summer, United’s captain for their 2-1 win against Leicester last week.
Mourinho hailed the former Juventus star after the game, claiming he impressed with the armband.
However, Pogba had other ideas, hinting at unrest in the Old Trafford dressing room.
He said: “There are things I can say and there are things that I cannot say, otherwise I will get fine.”
And according to The Sun, Mourinho and Pogba’s relationship is at an all time low after a huge bust-up.
They say the United boss has told his star man he didn’t like his comments – adding if he wants to quit the club again, he can ask for a transfer.
The again dig goes back to Pogba’s decision to leave United for Juventus in 2012.
Pogba reportedly fired back at Mourinho, claiming if the Special One wants a formal chat again he can go through his agent Mino Raiola.
The Sun add that Mourinho blames Raiola for the unrest at United, with reports claiming Barcelona are keen to sign Pogba before the end of the month.
Much has been made of Mourinho and Pogba’s relationship, with pundit Jermaine Jenas claiming the United boss will lose the war.
Jenas told Express Sport: “Unfortunately the manager never wins.
“Essentially what tends to happen, as we’ve seen many a year, especially surrounding Mourinho, it’s almost a player revolt at times.
They start not performing because they are not happy, which has an impact on the pitch, on the fans. It is not going to take much to rock that boat.
“So he has to be really careful with this one because I feel Pogba holds all the cards.
“I think Mourinho is who he is and he’s very stubborn in his mindset.
“Almost rightly so, he’s achieved so much in the game, he deserves that thought process but unfortunately I feel like he will be one that loses out and ends up losing his job because the club will be desperate to keep hold of Paul Pogba.”
United are back in action next Sunday, when Mourinho’s men travel to Brighton.
Red Devils boss Mourinho is desperate to catch Manchester City this season.
Mourinho watched on as Pep Guardiola’s men stormed to the Premier League title last time out.
City broke the 100-point barrier on route to the title.
