Police officer brutalizes carpenter at Tepa

A Police officer, Lance Corporal Henry Lamptey, popularly known as Chaka, stationed in Tepa in the Ashanti Region, has been captured in a videotape brutalising a carpenter who is also domiciled in Tepa.

According to reports, the carpenter, Kwabena Boateng, was assaulted by the officer and two police assistants, for delaying in completing a task given him.

A local journalist in Tepa, Munkaila Salifu, reported on the Ghana Yensom show on Accra 100.5FM hosted by Chief Jerry Forson, Thursday, 16 August that: “The officer had contracted the carpenter to produce a piece of furniture for him. The carpenter explained that the type of wood the officer wanted to be used for the furniture was scarce, and, will, therefore, delay in executing the job.

“But the police officer thought that the carpenter was playing a fast one on him, especially, since he had made part payment, hence, he laid an ambush for him, together with two other officers and attacked the carpenter on a street in Tepa.”

In the video, one woman who attempted to intervene to rescue the carpenter, was punched by the officers and collapsed immediately.

About a month ago, another police officer, Lance Corporal Fred Amanor, was also captured on video brutalising a 36-year-old grandmother who was holding her 2-month-old grandchild in the hall of the Shiashie branch of Midland Savings and Loans in Accra.

He was arrested and arraigned.
