2020 not done deal for Akufo-Addo – Ken Agyapong

President Nana Akufo-Addo will not win the upcoming general election on a silver platter following some issues at the party’s grassroots level, outspoken member of the governing New Patriotic Party, Kennedy Agyapong has said.

According to him, currently, there is disquiet within the grassroots which may spell doom for the party in the next polls.

“I will not say 2020 is a done deal for Akufo-Addo. I’m a good politician. I’m a grassroots person. The NPP people are annoyed. The grassroots are not seeing anything. So it’s not as easy as that so we have to correct those things,” he said during an interview on Ekosii sen on Asempa FM.

Kennedy Agyapong, who is also the Member of Parliament for the Assin Central said there are a number of NPP members who are struggling to make ends meet saying there are some who “need just GHc200 to do business” but do not get any support.
He urged the president to resource Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) to enable the centre take care of such people.

“Someone needs GHc500 so can’t you give them such monies from MASLOC? Resource MASLOC to enable it take care of the ordinary people,” Agyapong added.

Although Mr. Agyapong on the show commended the Akufo-Addo government for its handling of the economy and implementation of the free senior high school policy and other social intervention programmes, he said the NPP will struggle to retain power if issues at the grassroots are not checked.
