Man Utd news: Ryan Giggs responds to talk he may replace Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford

MANCHESTER UNITED legend Ryan Giggs has ruled out a sensational return to Old Trafford as Jose Mourinho’s successor.
Manchester United legend Giggs has emerged as a shock potential replacement for Mourinho amid the current crisis at Old Trafford.

All is not well with the Red Devils at present. Defeats to Brighton and Tottenham have seen them slip behind Manchester City and Liverpool already, a shambolic transfer window incurred Mourinho’s wrath and players like Paul Pogba and Alexis Sanchez are failing to perform.

Giggs took charge of Manchester United when David Moyes was axed in 2014, before working as Louis van Gaal’s assistant for two years.

But the Wales manager, who named his first squad today, has ruled out a sensational return.
“I’d keep your money in your pocket if I was you!” he said.

Giggs was then inevitably quizzed on Mourinho, who is reportedly just one defeat away from the sack with Burnley next up.

He said: “I think purely coming from me being a United fan, I was there on Monday, it’s a time for fans to stick together and get behind the club and the manager, coaching staff and players.

“It’s a tough time but they’ve had that before and come through it.
When I was assistant, Burnley was a game where I was setting up the cones and thought I wouldn’t mind playing today.

“It’s a fantastic game to get rid of that negativity.

“Purely as a fan I hope they come through it sooner rather than later.”

Wales are currently gearing up for their Nations League opener against Ireland.
And Giggs is relishing the challenge.

“It’s been a long wait with the three games I’ve had but the proper stuff starts now,” he said.

“It’s always looking towards games coming up with an eye on the future as well and I’ve shown that with the players I’ve picked, those performing well and also the young players who can push the established players.”

Jose Mourinho and United can bounce back from their Tottenham horror-show on Sunday (4pm).
