Electing Betty Mould-Iddrisu as chairperson will be a disaster – Yamin

Former Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister and former Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports, Mr. Joseph Yamin says election of Betty Mould-Iddrisu as Chairperson for the party will be disaster.

To him, the NDC bigwig will be a perfect choice for the position of Vice Chairperson, but certainly not as Chairperson.

Speaking on Okay FM’s ‘Ade Akye Abia’ programme, he insisted that the former Attorney General and Minister for Justice “does not deserve to be the national Chairperson of the party.”

“It is not that she cannot work for the party but the fact is she cannot work as a national Chairperson of the party,” he added.

Mr Joseph Yamin, whose aspiration to become Ashanti Regional Chairman of the party was crushed by his closest contender Nana Akwasi, denied speculations that his decision to fight against Madam Betty’s dream of becoming a National Chairperson is borne out of the fact that she made him lose the Ashanti Regional chairmanship position.

“In the coming weeks I will organize a press conference and let the public know why Betty Mould-Iddrisu will be disaster when elected as Chairperson for the party.

“But she should have in mind that Ashanti region is a no go area for her, she has already lost in advance the votes of the Ashanti regional delegates of the party,” he observed.

Among the list are a former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Mrs Betty Mould-Iddrisu, a former Local Government Minister, Mr Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, and a Vice Chairman of the NDC, Alhaji Huudu Yahaya, who are all contesting the position of national Chairman.

The National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) National Executive Committee (NEC) elections have been scheduled for Saturday, October 20, 2018.

Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the General Secretary of the NDC, however has disclosed that the election for the position of National Youth Organizer and his two deputies, and that of the Women’s Organizer and her two deputies, would be held a week earlier on Saturday, October 13.

Mr. Asiedu Nketia said on September 20, a notice of polls would be published throughout all the NDC’s constituencies and Regional Offices in the country.

He said positions at the national level that were available to contest include National Chairman, three National Vice Chairpersons, General Secretary and two Deputy General Secretaries, Communications Officer and two Deputy Communications Officers, National Organizer and two Deputy Organizers.

Others are five NEC Members without portfolios and the Zongo Caucus Coordinator.

He noted that in addition to these National Officers would be the National Youth Organizer with his two deputies, and the National Women Organizer with her two deputies, would be elected at their respective conferences.

The General Secretary said in subsequent NDC Youth National Delegate Elections, an age limit would be put in place to decide who qualifies to be a youth and can contest.

Before one would qualify to contest a NEC position, one should have been an active party member for not less than four years and should have held a position at the Constituency or held a position in government

On the filing fees, Mr. Asiedu Nketia said the NEC members without portfolios, their filing fees shall be GH¢ 2,000.

He said all Deputy National positions (excluding the Deputy General Secretary and National Vice Chairpersons) would attract a filing fee of GH¢ 2,000 respectively.

He noted that the National Youth Organiser, the National Women’s Organiser and the Zongo Caucus Coordinator attracts a filing fee of GH¢ 4,000 each.
