Licensing Exams: Teachers Stranded In Upper West

Teachers sitting for the licensing exams in the Upper West region are stranded due to the unavailability of question papers.

The teachers, according to Starr News’ Upper West Regional Correspondent Morris Banaamwone, traveled from Wa East, Sissala East and West districts and municipality as well as Sawla and Bole districts in the Northern Region.

The exam which was supposed to start at 8am at the Nusrat Jahan College of Education – the only licensure examination centre in the Upper West Region- has been rescheduled to 2pm because the question papers for the examination are not in.



The examination is for all teachers who hold the Diploma in Basic Education (DBE), Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) or a post-graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) who want to be employed by the Ghana Education Service.

According to the National Teaching Council, the purpose of the licensing examination is to enable qualified teachers to acquire a professional license to ply their trade.

The introduction of the licensing examination was met with some agitation by some teacher associations and newly trained teachers.
