Abura Dunkwa: One person arrested in murder of security man

Police in the Central region have picked up a suspect in the murder of the security guard at Abura Dunkwa.

Central Regional Police PRO, Irene Serwaa Oppong, told Joy News the suspect is key in the ongoing investigation to unravel the mystery surrounding the death of the 56-year-old man.

“The case is still under investigations and we have gathered information on the whereabouts of the suspect. Our men have gone there and we are making all efforts to arrest them. So far, we have picked up one person for interrogation,” she said.

Chaos erupted in the town on Sunday when angry youth burnt five belonging to some people suspected to be of Malian extraction in the town. The foreigners were suspected to be behind the killing of the security guard.

This latest incident comes three weeks after the linguist in the town and his wife were both murdered and beheaded by unknown assailants in their home.

The youth suspect a group of foreigners residing in the community are responsible for the gruesome murders.

There has been a heavy security at Abura Dunkwa since the angry youth burn down five houses on Sunday in retaliation against the alleged killing of a security guard on Saturday.

Police have tried to calm the agitated youth, assuring them that they had launched a murder investigation and a manhunt for those responsible for the killing of the security guard, but that has done little to calm the situation.

Central Region Correspondent, Richard Kwadwo Nyarko reports that unsteady calm has been restored to the community.

But the police has said the town is calm and under control, as there are military officers patrolling the town and the community members are going about their normal duties.

“We are appealing with the general public to cooperate and provide the police with information. The suspects and perpetrators live with the people so they should give us information to arrest them,” she said.
