‘Amidu drawing free salary and snoring on corruption’ - Brogya Genfi

‘Amidu drawing free salary and snoring on corruption’ – Brogya Genfi

Martin Alamisi Burnes Kaiser Amidu, Ghana’s first Special Prosecutor according National Democratic Congress (NDC) Youth Organiser Aspirant, Yaw Brogya Genfi is drawing salary and sleeping away while corruption is sinking the country.

He dared the former Attorney General and Minister of Justice under the erstwhile Professor Atta Mills Administration to name one person he has prosecuted ever since he took over the office which was heralded by pomp and pageantry by elements of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Speaking to Nana Yaa Boampomsem Ameyaw on Accra-based Homebase TV, he concurred with assertions by the Auditor General Mr Daniel Yao Domelevo that Mr Amidu is likely not to live up to his mandate in view of the challenges including being under-resourced.

“I have raised similar concerns like the Auditor General before. The office of Martin Amidu is not strong and special in corruption fight as portrayed. What has he done ever since he took over the position? No single prosecution has he embarked on…I dare him to mention one person he has prosecuted”, he dared on the show.

The NDC stalwart maintained that the current New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration is only good at paying lip-service to corruption fight in the wake of evident cases with a lukewarm attitude of mandated agencies.

“It is just a lip-service in corruption fight….There is no concrete evidence in the fight against corruption. There are a number of corrupt acts in the current dispensation but the government has exhibited lukewarm attitude in dealing with the canker”

Continuing his argument, he said “We had raised concerns that he was not going to be truly independent if the Attorney General has oversight responsibility. We are being vindicated. It is like a table they have set up and put a powerless person who has no mandate to execute”, he added.
