Groom dies in gory crash, bride in coma

A joyful wedding reception at Madina, a suburb of Accra, turned sorrowful following a tragic accident which claimed the life of the bridegroom, with the bride battling for her life at the hospital.

Tears flowed at the venue after news broke that the bridegroom, Disu Kamaru, had died in a car accident en route to the venue on what could have been the happiest day of his life.

Family sources indicated that the deceased and his newly wedded wife, Janatil Firdaws Yakubu, were on their way to the wedding reception at Africana Guest House, near the Atomic Interchange, when the unfortunate incident occurred.

The bride turned widow, whose health deteriorated quickly within a few hours, was hospitalized.

The incident occurred on Sunday, September 30, 2018, at about 1pm at Madina Atomic Road.

Information gathered by DAILY GUIDE indicates that they initially held the Islamic marriage ceremony in Takoradi where Islamic clerics performed the necessary rites to cement the marriage between Kamara Disu and his wife, Janatil Firdaws Yakubu.



Family sources revealed that the two love birds successfully tied the nuptial knot in Takoradi in the Western Region but decided to have the party in Accra.

The couple and two other friends were said to be travelling in a Hyundai Fantasy to the venue when the incident occurred.

A driver of a vehicle reportedly attempted to overtake another car, but lost control and rammed the vehicle of the couple, forcing it to crash into a tree.

He was rushed to the 37 Military Hospital for treatment, but was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Major Alhaji Disu (Rtd), father of the deceased, who could not bear the pain, reportedly collapsed upon hearing of the incident.

He was subsequently rushed to a nearby health facility.

The deceased was buried yesterday according to Islamic tradition.

Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Accra Regional Police Command, Deputy Superintendent of police, (DSP) Effia Tenge, when contacted said the Kwabenya Police received news of the accident at about 1:30pm on Sunday.

She said when the police got to Atomic area where the accident occurred, the occupants had already been rushed to the hospital for treatment but saw the Hyundai Fantasy with registration number GT 2059-17 at the scene.

The police chief said the vehicle was towed to the police station and preliminary investigations revealed that the occupants were heading towards North Legon from Taifa.

She said the police were still investigating the matter.
