I was voted for based on competence – Opare Addo

The National Youth Organiser-elect of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), George Opare Addo, aka Pablo, has refitted claims from a cross section of the public that his election was influenced and induced by vote buying.

He said apart from providing food and water to delegates at the party’s Youth & Women’s Congress held at the Pentecost Convention Center on Saturday, October 27, 2018, he never distributed or disbursed any other material and or money to influence the delegates to vote for him.

His election to one of the highest position of the party, he noted, was based on competence.

“People voted for based on competence; people voted based on substance. The delegates voted based on the message we gave them. If people distributed other materials and or money in my name, I wasn’t aware”, he told Accra-based Okay FM in an interview, Monday, October 29, 2018.

He said he finds it very difficult to believe when people make such wild allegations of vote buying against him when there was so much on the delegates from some other quarters to vote against him.

” If I look at the pressure that was brought to bear on some of the delegates to vote against Georgs Opare Addo and still they ahead to vote for me, that should tell you that they voted based on merit”, he noted.

Face of the Wing

Commenting further, Pablo said one of his main priorities to make the umbrella family a force to reckon with is to change the face of their youth wing and make it more attractive to win power for the NDC in 2020. No work is easy. I assessed the challenges ahead of me and I told myself I can do it. I am bringing onboard the kind of leadership that will transcend all the way to the grassroots. A journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step and that first step is George Opare Addo winning the elections. The next step is to revamp the youth wing and make it more attractive so that a lot more people can join”, he explained.

He added “I am a goal getter. I set targets and work towards attaining them and I believe that my target is to rebrand the NDC and make it more attractive. My prayer is for God to grant me strength to enable me work towards attaining those targets”.

George Opare Addo won the NDC National Youth Organizer position of with 523 votes. His opponents, Yaw Brogya Genfi and Wonder Madilo polled 396 and 74 votes respectively.
