NDC delegates’ Conference: Chief Azorka, Sherry Ayittey, others win big

Former Northern Regional Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Chief Awudu Sofo Azorka has been elected among the three National Vice-Chairpersons of the party.

At the party’s 9th delegates’ conference held at the Fantasy Dome of the Trade Fair Center in Accra, Chief Azorka was given the nod to serve in the leadership position for the next four (4) years.

Sherry Ayittey and Said Sinare were also elected as Vice Chairpersons of the NDC.

In all, nine aspirants contested for the three slots.

The six (6) other aspirants who failed in their bid were;

Alhaji Amadu Bukari Sorogho

Lawyer Adu- Yeboah

Yaw Owusu Obimpeh

Alhaji Sumaila Mahama

Dr Kwame Ampofo

Seth Ofosu-Ohene



For the position of Zongo caucus coordinator, Alhaji Mamah Mohammed Cole Younger was elected after polling 3,840 votes. He defeated 5 other aspirants for that position.

Peter Otukonor and lawyer Barbara Serwaa Asamoah were elected deputy General Secretaries while Kobby Barlon and Chief Biney also elected deputy National Organizers.

Out of the eight (8) National Executive Committee aspirants, Alhaji Sheriff Abudul Nasiru, Alhaji Habibu Adramani, Evelyn Enyonam Mensah, William Wilson Agbleke and Alhaji Babanlamie Abu Sadat emerged victors.

Johnson Asiedu Nketia was retained as the party’s General Secretary, Joshua Akamba was elected as National Organiser, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo as Chairman, and Sammy Gyamfi as National Communications Officer.

NDC elects national executives

Over 9, 000 delegates of the NDC voted.

The congress, which began on Saturday entered into Sunday becoming what may be described as the longest congress by any political party so far.

It however saw the adoption of some motions of amendment to the party’s Constitution and the election of all national executives.

65 candidates vied for various positions.

The positions were National Chairman, Vice-Chairman, General Secretary, Deputy General Secretary, National Organizer, Deputy National Organiser, Communications Officer, Deputy Communications Officer, National Executive Committee Members and the Zongo caucus coordinator.

This particular congress, the NDC believes will re-energize the party to recapture power in the 2020 general elections.
