Freddie Blay suffering from identity crisis – Sammy Gyamfi

Newly elected Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi, says the chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Freddie Blay, is suffering from identity crisis.

Mr Gyemfi believes Mr Blay has no roots in the Danquah-Busia tradition.

His comment comes after he was asked by the host of Asempa FM’s Ekosi Sen, Osei Bonsu, Monday to compare his chairman-elect, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo to Mr Freddy Blay.

“There is no way you can compare the two of them despite the fact that Freddy Blay also has a lot of respect. Freddie Blay is suffering from an identity crisis so I don’t see why anyone will compare him to our Ofosu Amapofo. Even in his party, he has a lot of criticisms,” he said.

Delegates of the opposition NDC have rewarded long service and loyalty to the party by voting massively for Samuel Ofosu Ampofo as their new chairman.

But Mr Gyamfi opined his party voted based on the historical values of the party and chose loyalty, unlike the NPP.

He said this was the right time to hand over the chairmanship baton to a man he believes has spent his entire career working for the people.

“Someone who will spend all his time on party issues, someone whose chairmanship activities would not be detracted by his personal issues [was the person the NDC voted for].

The NDC at this point, he noted, needs an effective chairman who will listen to the people and empower all executives and party folks to become active participants in party activities.
