Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) President, Kwesi Nyantakyi, has responded to an ex-Black Star player, Rev Osei Kofi’s call on President Akufo-Addo to deal with him or risk losing the next polls.
In a response signed by his spokesperson, Irbad Ibrahim, he stated ‘I have read with serious reservations excerpts of an interview attributed to sports commentator Rev Osei Kofi politicizing an issue that is being contested in court currently.’
According to a quote from Ghanaweb, Osei Kofi said:
“Nana Akufo Addo must know that Number 12 expose was divine intervention to get the President of the land to deal with Kwesi Nyantakyi’s ‘thievery’ and clean Ghana football. If he fails to deal with Nyantakyi, Ghanaians will respond in 2020, “the one-time Stoke City hotshot target told Kumasi-based Sikka FM.”
He described as unfortunate the former footballer’s attribution of thievery to him when, he added, two strong suits of defamation and breach of fundamental human rights of privacy are being pursued in court.
‘I urge Rev Osei Kofi to exercise restraint in making such unguarded and ill-informed statements that seek to incite the general public against Nyantakyi and put his name into disrepute’ adding that this mild response should serve as caution to the Osei Kofi and others who take delight in bad-mouthing Kwesi Nyantakyi for whatever reasons.
Mr. Nyantakyi has served notice of going to court to seek redress for contemptuous and libelous utterances.
