Provide timelines to end Vigilantism – STRANEK to Akufo-Addo

Policy think tank, Strategic Thinkers Network-Africa (STRANEK-Africa), says President Akufo-Addo must come clear on his promises to stamp out vigilantism completely by providing timelines within which this would be achieved.

Ghanaians have criticised the onslaught of vigilantism in the country saying the trend has potentially dire consequences if the situation is not checked.

“Ghanaians have created a monster that is going devour them in the future if something is not done about vigilantism.” a Senior Research Fellow at Centre for Democratic Development (CDD) Ghana has said.”STRANEK

President at his 2018 encounter with the media on Wednesday, December, 19, 2018 promised to stamp out vigilantism completely in his party and any other sources of vigilantism that may emerge.

However a statement from STRANEK and signed by its Executive Director, Nii Tettey Tetteh said: “As refreshing as this may sound considering the fact that this is coming after several calls from civil societies groups including STRANEK to disband vigilante groups, we require him to concretise this move by giving us a specific timeline within which this will be achieved.”

GIVE REALISTIC TIMELINES OF STAMPING OUT VIGILANTISM – STRANEK

We hope that this operation will not have to endure the long journeys of government programme implementation pipelines but will quickly manifest within a couple of weeks so we can be assured his promise is no lip service.

Further to eradicating this canker of political paramilitary vigilantism, our peace and security will be guaranteed when all such elements who have found employment with our security services are removed and government curtails the employment of such hoodlums into the security services.

In conclusion, we fully endorse this move by the President and hope that the security services will be given the exclusive right to guarantee our peace and security going forward.

We are all involved in building our motherland Ghana.
