Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa earmarked as possible next Man Utd manager by expert

LEEDS UNITED boss Marcelo Bielsa has been mooted as a possible man to take charge at Manchester United by commentator David Preece.
Bielsa took the Leeds United job over the summer and has guided them to the top of the Championship table.

Manchester United, meanwhile, are struggling and have axed Jose Mourinho as manager after poor form on the pitch and rows with his biggest stars off it.

Like Mourinho, Bielsa is no stranger to controversy but Preece is surprised no-one has put his name in the frame to take charge at Old Trafford.
Preece said on the Football Writers Podcast: “I don’t think he [Bielsa] would go, but I’m surprised that anybody else hasn’t mentioned it because if you can’t get [Pep] Guardiola and you can’t get [Mauricio] Pochettino, who do you get? Who’s close to that?
“Too much of a loose cannon? Maybe, I mean he hasn’t really been given a club like Manchester United to hold the reins of, but I mean look at him now though.

“He’s top of the Championship now, he’s so reluctant to bring any players in, he’s playing players who are 17 and 18 years old.”

However, Preece thinks Leeds United are the right club for the Argentine.

He added: “I think Leeds are perfect for him because Leeds are still an old-fashioned club, still feels like a real club.
“He seems to be the person who’s doing it at the moment but I just think it’s strange it hasn’t even been mentioned.”

Bielsa replaced axed Paul Heckingbottom at Leeds last summer and he’s helped the Whites go on a seven-game winning run prior to Saturday’s 2-0 defeat to Hull.

But it has now emerged that Heckingbottom could have in fact been the man who helped suggest Bielsa for the job.

He told Leeds Live: “I actually spoke to the director of football at Leeds about [Athletic] Bilbao and the way they played and I probably put the idea in his head. ‘Oh, let’s go get Marcelo.’”
