Family members of an Assemblies of God pastor, Rev. David Nabegmado, who was stabbed to death by his nephew are discounting claims their deceased relative was engaged in human sacrifices.
The suspect, Francis Nabegmado, has confessed to the crime but justified same, claiming the deceased had targeted to use him for rituals.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Dan Makandan urged the public to disregard what he describes as an erroneous impression created by the suspect in the viral video.
“Nabegmado family distances itself from an alleged statement made by Francis. Rev [David] Nabegmado is a genuine man of God who is humble and down to earth,” he told Joy News, Monday.
Rev Nabegmado was stabbed multiple times by Francis while he was preparing to deliver his sermon on Sunday.
He was rushed to the hospital but unfortunately succumbed to his stab wounds before he could be attended to.
The perpetrator of the crime was pursued by some members of the community and accosted after he attempted to escape in a taxi.
Francis Nabegmado in an audio circulating on social media said to be extracted from his statement to the police after committing the crime, claimed he killed Rev. Nabegmado because he was not practising what he preached.
The suspect sounding incoherent in his statement also alleged the man of God was responsible for the deaths of some family members and church members and hence his decision to put an end to these.
“He himself knows that today is the final day for all of us and I decided to come with this knife and with turpentine and matches,” he said, revealing his next action was to take some items in his possession and set them ablaze after killing him before he was accosted.
But the family spokesperson, Mr Makandan said the deceased “…was an asset not only to the family but the church and Ghana as a whole. The family is deeply saddened by the turn of events and requests the public to disregard all statement made to tarnish the image of an accomplished man of God.”
