The Chief Executive Officer of St. Adrews Group of Schools and Companies Dr. Richard Asiedu has stated emphatically that widow’s play critically roles in the development of the the society, however , they and their children continued to face numerous challenges, including human rights abuse, gender inequality and other obstacles impending their development.
Dr. Richard Asiedu, said issues against widows and their children remains hidden and called for strong commitment of stakeholders to ensure that the welfare of widows in our societies are well executed.
According to him, in as much as government and other stakeholders are are fighting for the freedom of widows and orphans lived dignified lives, we are quick to add that the issues widows and their children face can no longer stay invisible if Ghana is to attain Sustainable Development Goals.
” Policies such as the intestate succession law, the marriage Act, the Domestic Violence Act, the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty ( LEAP ) intervention and others have been enacted and passed to improve on the condition of widows and their children, yet the commitment towards implementation needs more efforts” Dr. Asiedu stressed.
He also said families that treats widows wicked such as bathing her with hot and cold water, forcing the widow to drink concoction, making her walk barefooted in public are against their fundermental human rights.
Finally, he urged them to get themselves involve in any social intervention programme in order to reduce poverty.
Widowhood is not a crime it’s God’s will and plans.
They shouldn’t limit themselves because of widowhood.
Dr. Richard Asiedu made this comment after he shares Over 500 Cock and hens, bags of rice, bottles of oil, huge amount of money and other food stuffs to Widows, Orphans, serial callers of his station within Assin and beyond.
Some of the beneficiaries also shares their appreciation and asked God blessings on Dr. Richard Asiedu for his kindness towards them every year.
Others also call for the community to reward him by putting up his statue in the community to remember him always
Majority of his projects are in Assin such as St. Andrews senior high school, St. Andrews college of health care, ultimate remedial school, Rich Fm and Rich Multimedia School and ongoing TV station project.
