‘What’s wrong if I invested with Menzgold?’ – Asiedu Nketia asks NPP ‘propagandists’

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia has replied NPP propagandists, saying there is nothing wrong with him investing with the embattled gold dealership firm, Menzgold Ghana Limited.

News reports were rife during the weekend that Mr Asiedu Nketiah who is popularly known as General Mosquito had hugely invested in Menzgold before its collapse.

Other popular figures in the NDC including the founder of NDC, Flt Lt Jerry John Rawlings and Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu were listed in the reports as persons whose cash were allegedly locked up at the gold dealership firm at the time the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) ordered it to halt operations in September 2018.

But in an interview with Mugabe Maase on Inside Politics on Radio XYZ 93.1 Monday afternoon, General Mosquito wondered why people, particularly the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters would victimize Menzgold customers.

“What is wrong with it if I invested in Menzgold?” Mr Asiedu Nketiah quizzed and called on government to help retrieve the locked up funds of customers to them.

“What they (NPP supporters) are doing is victim blaming…that doesn’t solve the problem. What’s important is bringing to book the person who has the monies of the people,” he added.

He blamed the NPP government for associating itself with CEO of Menzgold, Nana Appiah Mensah (NAM 1) and added his association with government officials misled Ghanaians to invest colossal amount of money at the now defunct gold dealership company.

General Mosquito wants the NPP government to come out and state its position on the crisis that has hit Menzgold and apologise to Ghanaians.

“I expect government officials listening to me to come out and say our dealings with this man is why Ghanaians were deceived to invest with the firm,” he added.

He said the customers of Menzgold did not err in investing with the company because it is not a crime to invest in the country.

Currently, NAM 1 has been arrested in Dubai over some alleged gold deals that went bad.

Ghana police has confirmed he was nabbed on December 7,2018 in the United Arab Emirates.
