Paul Pogba is set to sit down and discuss a new contract at Manchester United.

The Sun say the France international is willing to commit his future to United, providing he earns the same amount as Alexis Sanchez.

A United source told The Sun: “Pogba’s agent is ready to end the problems he has had with the club over the last few months.

“He wasn’t over much towards the end of last year. There was a big breakdown of relationships while Mourinho was in charge.

“[Mino] Raiola wants to talk about his clients ongoing future when all the January business is concluded, which won’t be too much.

“There were talks over whether he would go, but there is no chance of that. He looks like he’s the happiest he has been in a long time.”

West Ham have lined up in-form Atalanta striker Duvan Zapata to potentially replace in-demand Marko Arnautovic, according to reports in Italy.

The on-loan Sampdoria ace took his tally to 14 goals in his last eight appearances by netting four against Frosinone on Sunday.

And West Ham are reported to be plotting a huge £35m (€40m) bid to add Zapata to their squad before the end of the month.

“Not right now [I don’t expect any offers], but if my level continues to rise, it will come,” the defender, who is on loan at Olympiakos from Reims, told L’Equipe.

“I’ve been there a couple of times in the past, maybe next time is the right one.

“Arsenal? It would be a dream. But playing in England, it would be already top.

“She [his wife] is from Liverpool and all her family is a fan of the Reds.

“When Everton was interested in me, she said to me laughing: Everton is ok, but never Man United!”
10:45 UPDATE: Man Utd backed to sign defender
Manchester United have been tipped to sign a defender this month by Paul Merson, who claims the Red Devils should target Toby Alderweireld and Kalidou Koulibaly.

“Defensively they are not good enough,” he told Sky Sports. “I dread to think what the score will be against PSG in the Champions League next month.

“They need defenders. If it were not for bad finishing by Tottenham then it could have been any score.

“Toby Alderweireld and Kalidou Koulibaly are two players United should be targeting. Those two are the best two centre-backs in the world, along with Thiago Silva. Alderweireld probably could be purchased at a reasonable price, too.”
10:25 UPDATE: Tottenham eyeing Malcom
Tottenham are eager to snap up Malcom or Antonio Sanabria as they seek to plug the gap opened up by Harry Kane’s injury.

“They want to do a loan for Barcelona’s Denis Suarez, he’s got 18 months left on his contract.

“Barcelona, actually, are reluctant sellers but if they were going to do a loan with Arsenal, they would want some sort of guarantee of a permanent deal coming up in the summer.

“They value him at around £20m and perhaps most significantly and most importantly, Suarez wants Arsenal.”

Spurs are without Kane, while Dele Alli limped off against Fulham on Sunday afternoon.
08:30 UPDATE: Klopp on January transfer plans
Jurgen Klopp insists Liverpool will not dive into the January transfer market, despite their injury problems.

He said: “We have to use the resources we have already and that is what we try.

“It is a really difficult problem. I can imagine what people think about this situation but you have to make decisions in moments when decisions are on the table. That’s why Clyney is not here anymore.

“In that moment we had plenty of options and now we don’t have them. That’s how it is in our next games. Trent got an injury and it’s serious but not that serious.

“He will be back early but I don’t know if early enough for the next game. Maybe the game after. Everyone gives me the feeling, Trent as well, that that is absolutely possible.

“We have to come through this situation. Tell me a player who can play right back and other positions as well better than our boys like Rafa [Camacho] can do?”
