President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has commended the Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC) on the conduct of the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency by-election, which elected wife of the deceased Member of Parliament, Emmanuel Kwabena Kyeremanteng Agyarko, to succeed him in Parliament.
While congratulating Lydia Syram Alhassan on her 69 per cent victory in the election, the president noted the EC displayed “professionalism” in the conduct of the election despite what he described as “the isolated challenge it faced”.
“I commend the Electoral Commission for the professionalism it displayed in conducting a free, fair, transparent and credible election, despite the isolated challenge it faced,” the president said in a statement issued Friday, February 1.
He also used the opportunity to commend Ghanaians for their participation in the electoral process, stating it is a demonstration of their “deep attachment to the principles of democratic accountability and the rule of law”.
He emphasized “Ghana’s democracy is robust and will only grow from strength to strength”.
Meanwhile, the president has also condemned some incidents of violence, which occurred in the early stages of the election, leaving about 18 people injured.
