I never stored guns in my house – Delali Brempong

The National Democratic Congress’ Parliamentary candidate for the Ayawaso West-Wuogon constituency, Delali Kwesi Brempong, has dismissed claims and suggestions that he had stored ammunition in his house prior to the by-elections.

According to him, it’s erroneous for anyone to suggest that operatives of the National Security besieged his premises on the day of the by-election to retrieve a cache of arms stored in his premises.

Appearing before the Emile Short chaired of Commission of Inquiry, probing violence that characterised the Ayawaso West-Wuogon by-election, Mr. Brempong stated that “my house is not a warehouse, it is a seven bedroom house with private offices.

“I want to put on record that in my life time I have not lawfully or lawfully acquired fire arms.”

Mr. Brempong, however, confirmed that he was not at home when the violence started but saw evidence of over 15 gun shots upon his arrival.

His comments sharply contradicts claims by the SWAT team leader DSP Samuel Azugu who said his men only fired six warning shots on that day.

Earlier the Director of Operations at the National Security Colonel Michael Opoku also discounted some of the evidence given by the head of the SWAT team when he appeared before the commission.

According to him, the long hours the SWAT team leader DSP Samuel Azugu spent answering questions before the commission might have blurred his ability to think straight and respond to matters.

“He was here was for about four hours and his thinking capability started giving him some problems,” Colonel Opoku reacted to a question by the Commission’s lawyer on some claims of the SWAT leader.

He also rejected claims by DSP Azugu that the National Security operatives wore mask to avoid mosquito bites.
