SONA 2019: We’ll improve sports facilities ahead of AAG 2023- Akufo Addo

President Akufo-Addo says sports infrastructure will be upgraded ahead of the 2023 All Africa Games.

The Sporting industry will receive a hike in terms of facilities as the country prepares to host the rest of Africa for the first time in the competition.

Ghana was given the rights to host the next edition of the multi-sports competition after winning a bid.

Measures have been put in place to ensure the country host the event successfully with the building of several Sports and recreational centres in the various regions.

During Thursday’s State of the Nations address, the President assured there will be adequate funds allocated to build Sports infrastructures for the competition.

“Ghana won, last year, the bid to host the 13th All Africa Games. It presents our nation with the opportunity to upgrade sporting infrastructure in the country, and position our nation as a preferred destination for the development of sporting disciplines on the continent.

“We have begun renovating and upgrading our sporting infrastructure such as the Accra and Cape Coast Sports Stadia, and the Azumah Nelson Sports Complex in Kaneshie, and a complete refurbishment of sports facilities across the country.”

“Funds have also been released for the completion of the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, started by the Kufuor-led NPP Government, but abandoned soon after 2009,” he added.

Ghana have already hosted several competition including the Africa Cup of Nations, the Africa U20 Cup of Nations and the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations.
