NPP salutes Mahama; condemns NDC’s plot

The New Patriotic Party has congratulated former President John Mahama for winning the presidential primaries of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The NDC Presidential Primaries was held on Saturday, February 23, 2019.

Mr. Mahama defeated six other contenders after he pulled 95.24 percent of the votes.

But the NPP whilst congratulating the former President, condemned his party for allegedly plotting violence in the country.

The NPP has also urged Mr. Mahama to change his political philosophy of “boot for boot.”

At a press conference in Accra today, the Communications Director of the NPP, Yaw Boabeng Asamoah condemned the party and its National Chairman, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo for plotting violence and denting the image of Ghana.

That was after a leaked tape recording allegedly of the NDC National Chairman, Ofosu Ampofo.

In the over two hours tape available to DGN Online, the NDC Chairman could be heard calling for a relentless war against the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Jean Mensa.

NPP described the day it congratulated the former president on his victory and condemned the violence “the NDC intends to unleash on the country in the coming days” as a “bittersweet” day.

In the tape, the NDC Chairman called on his party to target people for assassination, carried out kidnapping, among others.

According to Mr. Asamoah, the revelation has broken public trust in the NDC.

He said the NDC and Mr. Mahama appear “greedy” for power, and are doing everything desperately to capture power in 2020 regardless of the danger it poses to the nation.

He could not fathom why the NDC Chairman, who is a Church of Pentecost Elder could call for murder, kidnappings, among others.

Referring to the tape, he said “until we get to the bottom of this matter, this nation is not safe.”

He said that “what has happened is bad and ugly.”
