Ofosu Ampofo clashes with Mahama; says NDC will campaign on policies and not his boot-for-boot

Embattled National Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel Ofosu Ampofo is on a collision course with the flagbearer of the party over his recent pronouncement on matching the governing party boot-for-boot, MyNewsGh.com reports.

In the run-up to last Saturday’s NDC flagbearer contest which former President John Dramani Mahama emerged victorious, while addressing NDC delegates in Adaklu Constituency of the Volta Region on Thursday, January 31, 2019, Mr Mahama said the NDC will match the NPP boot-for-boot in the 2020 elections if the government attempts to intimidate and harass NDC supporters with violence.

”I want to sound a caution that NDC has a revolutionary root and when it comes to unleashing violence, no one can beat us to that. It is just that we are mindful of this country’s democracy and that is why we must be the first to respect it. That is why we are acting as a party that is docile and respecting the rule of law. But if we believe that the government cannot protect our people and we believe that the government is using its vigilante groups and illegal forces to intimidate and harass and injure our people, then we may have to advise ourselves”, he warned at the event covered by MyNewsGh.com‘s Volta Regional Correspondent.

But the party’s National Chairman who himself has been captured in the latest leaked tape allegedly inciting party communicators against leaders of certain state institutions has rubbished the “boot-for-boot” statement made by his party’s flagbearer and Former President of Ghana, Mr John Dramani Mahama.

“This election will not be based on boot-for-boot,” Mr Samuel Ofosu Ampofo said on GBC Radio programme dubbed Behind the News monitored by MyNewsGh.com.

He believes the 2020 elections must be one based on issues, policies and good strategies and not grounded on violence as many will want it to look like.

When asked if the 2020 election is going to be ‘boot for boot’ he sharply responded, “No no no! we are going to adopt a very strategic election and I will not want to discuss issues of strategies on air but I want you to know that it is going to be an election which is going to be based on issues”.

“It will not be based on boot for boot. We are going to deal with issues. We are going to deal with policies; we are going to deal with programmes. We are also going to deal with achievement and compare and contrast”. Mr Samuel Ofosu Ampofo disclosed on the programme monitored by MyNewsgh.com.
