The Asuogyaman District Security Council (DISEC) has intervened to resolve the impasse between Kpedzi and Abume communities following bloody clashes over a transformer.
The clashes between the two communities were triggered by the disconnection of Kpedzi from a power supply which was being tapped from a transformer constructed to serve only Abume.
The disconnection was done after the transformer began to malfunction due to overload, plunging residents of Kpedzi into darkness.
Infuriated by the disconnection, indigenes of Kpedzi tried to forcibly get their community reconnected to the transformer but were fiercely resisted, leading to violent clashes between the youth of the two communities. The swift intervention of the Akosombo Police, however, helped to restore law and order.
The Member of Parliament for Asuogyaman, Thomas Ampem Nyarko during a visit to the communities and the injured promised to facilitate the provision of a transformer which was gathering dust at the assembly since 2016 when he was District Chief Executive, to the Kpedzi Community
The District Chief Executive for Asuogyaman, Samuel Kwame Agyekum, told Starr News, DISEC has resolved the impasse and has provided a Transformer to be constructed for people of Kpedzi.
However, the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Asuogyaman constituency has accused the DCE for giving a 50KV transformer which has been at the Assembly to Paul Asare Ansah, former Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Ports and Harbors Authority eyeing to be Parliamentary candidate of the ruling New Patriotic Party in the area to present to Kpedzi Community in his personal capacity just to score cheap political Points.
