Four committees inaugurated to handle sports development

Isaac Kwame Asiamah, Minister of Youth and Sports (MOYS), has inaugurated four committees, tasked with the responsibility of seeing to the development of sports in Ghana.

The four committees include; Ghana 2023 African Games Project Team, National Sports Policy Review Committee, International Games and Competitions Committee and Local Organizing Committee (LOC) 2019 International Table Tennis Federation/African Table Tennis Federation (ITTF/ATTF).

According to Mr. Asiamah, the committees must ensure that Ghana was counted among the elites, when it comes to sports and sporting infrastructure.

He said the Ghana 2023 Project Team, which would be chaired by Mr. Perry Curtis Okudzeto, Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports and would among other duties engage stakeholders in the industry to develop ideas and road map that would see Ghana hosting a well-deserved African Games in 2023.



“All the committees we have inaugurated here today have various and different roles to play in making sure that, sports in Ghana reached a higher pedigree, especially the least financed sports.

“Some of the committees would review the existing sports policies with best practices to promote sports and unearth athletes that can win laurels for Ghana in the future”.

The Ghana 2013 Project Team, tasked to come up with the road map and modern infrastructure for the Africa Games for the over twenty sporting disciplines, would comprise of Mr. Perry Curtis Okudzeto as Chairman with Barbara Asher Ayisi, Professor Peter Twumasi, Mr. Ben Nunoo-Mensah, Dr. Emmanuel Owusu-Ansah, Mr. Magnus Rex Danquah and Dr. Beatrice Dwumfour Williams as members.

The nine member committee for the National Sports Policy Review Committee, which would help formulate policy documents with international best practices for the promotion of sports would also comprise of Mr. Perry Curtis Okudzeto, Mr. Magnus Rex Danquah, Dr. Emmanuel Owusu-Ansah, Ms. Vivian Doublor, Mr. Eric Dwamena, Dr. Julius Aikins-Hawkson, Dr. Patrick Ofori, Mr. Solomon Tetteh Mensah and Mr. Ahmed Osumanu Halid.

Professor Peter Twumasi would lead the International Games and Competitions Committee with Mr. Emmanuel Oteng, Mr. Yaw Kutor, Dr. Emmanuel Owusu-Ansah, Mr. Magnus Rex-Danquah, Mr. Ben Nunoo Mensah, Reverend Richmond Rexford Quarcoo, Mr. Richard Akpokavie, Mr. Salifu Omar and Mr. George Owusu Ansah.

The upcoming ITTF/ATTF competitions slated for Ghana in April, 2019 would have Professor Peter Twumasi, Mr. Mawuko Afadzinu, Mr. Ken Ashigbey, Madam Oforiwaa Owusu Agyei, Dr. Emmanuel Owusu-Ansah, Mr. Magnus Rex-Danquah, Mr. Anthony Owusu Ansah, Mr. Clarence Amoateng, Mr. Samuel Aryee and Mr. Jason Onyame making up the Local Organizing Committee for the tournament, which has been tasked to help unearth and groom talents for the upcoming Africa Games in 2013.
