Dogboe to quit boxing at welterweight division

Former World Boxing Organisation (WBO) super bantamweight titlist, Isaac “Royal Storm” Dogboe, has targeted finishing his career at welterweight before quitting. Dogboe explained in an interview with the Graphic Sports that he was looking forward to becoming a multiple-division world champion at the end of his career.

Having pitched camp at Keta in the Volta Region, the 24-year-old is preparing feverishly towards his scheduled WBO World super bantamweight championship rematch with Mexico’s Emanuel Navarrete at the Convention Centre in Tucson, Arizona.

He, however, noted that his focus was to reclaim his lost title at this point before thinking of other achievements in the future.

“It is a dream of every fighter to become a multiple division world champion and that’s my target for the future.

“I will, however, prefer finishing my career at welterweight, but for now, the focus is on reclaiming my title against Navarrete,” he said.

Dogboe (20-1, 14 KOs) endured a successful outing last year winning a world title before losing it within eight months.

The Ghanaian, before losing out to Navarrete (26-1, 22 KOs) on December 8 in New York, dispatched the likes of Cesar Juarez, Jessie Magdaleno and Hidenori Otake in 2018.
