Ibrahim Sunday reveals how he engineered a move to Asante Kotoko

Former Asante Kotoko skipper Ibrahim Sunday has revealed how he ended up signing for the Porcupine Warriors despite being born and bred in Koforidua.

According to the him, he fell in love with the club during his youthful days at Koforidua after watching them play in the Eastern Region.

The Porcupine Warriors were so attractive that every brilliant player hatched a dream of wearing the red and white colours.

Sunday reveals he had to worked hard to impress the Porcupines Warriors before ending up at the club.

“When I was playing Juvenile football they used to come to Koforidua and play, from that youthful age I began to like them.

‘I said to my self one day I will play for Kotoko,” he exclusively told Footballmadeinghana.com



“When I grew up I traveled to Accra to play for Standfast. But I wanted to play for Kotoko.

“We played a match against Hearts of Oak in Accra and I did very well, after the game, One of the executive of Great Ashanti spotted me and said I have a great future. So they wanted me to come and play for them.

“I was happy because I was coming to Kumasi which is closer to Kotoko meaning my dream was coming true,” he revealed.

“During the league, I played against Kotoko and Cornerstone and did very well after the league which forced Cornerstone to sign me.

“I left Great Ashanti and signed for Cornerstone.

“At that there was a rivalry between Kotoko and Cornerstone.

“We played a league match with Kotoko, and I did very well because I wanted them to sign me. At the end of the season Kotoko came for me,” he narrated.

“But I looked at the players at Kotoko at that time and told myself I won’t go because if had gone, I wouldn’t have gotten enough time.



“Because most of their players were playing for national team. But I have not even play for the national team.

“So I decided to stay at Cornerstone for another year, and that season I had invitation to the national team. I was given the number (6) and regular player.”

“So I made up my mind when they come again I will go, and truly they came and I went. That is how I won a lot of things there”

Ibrahim Sunday led the club to win the then African champions league in 1970.
