AMIR KHAN and Terence Crawford go head-to-head in New York tonight but how much prize money is on offer?
Madison Square Garden will be the stage as Amir Khan challenges Terence Crawford for the WBO welterweight title.
Khan tipped the scales at 146.6lbs at yesterday’s weigh-in, narrowly heavier than his American opponent, who was 146.4lbs.
Crawford represents a far bigger task for the Bolton fighter to negotiate, who could have fought British rival Kell Brook for more money.
But Khan said it was a calculated decision to fight for a smaller purse and made a clear a bout with Brook can wait.
His last fight did hardly any ticket sales and the performance was that bad that it upset even the fans who came to see him fight,” said Khan of Brook’s battle against Michael Zerafa in December.
“I was selling the fight [with Brook] on my own back and it’s too much pressure selling the fight on your own.
“Let’s hope Kell comes back with a good win and we’ll take it from there.
“I’m still getting paid the big-money fights, I’m not chasing Kell Brook, I just want him to have a good performance and respect me.”
Khan vs Crawford purse and prize money
Khan will receive a purse of $5million (£3.85m) for the battle with Crawford.
The WBO welterweight champion is set to take home a minimum of $5.5m (£4.23m).
As with most pay-per-view events, both fighters will earn a percentage of the purchases.
