A joint team of Police, environmental officers, and personnel of the National Disaster Management Organization has retrieved a decomposing body of a man drowned in the lower stream of the Volta Lake at Kpong near Akuse in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality of the Eastern Region.
The unidentified body was found floating on the river by fishermen. They subsequently informed the Police to help retrieve the body on Tuesday.
According to the Akuse District Police Commander, Superintendent Winfred Asare Nyarko, the body of the deceased was decomposed beyond recognition, therefore, it could not be sent to the morgue for autopsy hence has been buried.
He said though, investigation is on-going, it is likely the deceased may not be an indigene since there is no report of a missing person in the area.
Austin Ofori, a local Journalist told Starr News, incidents of drowning do occur on that stretch of the Volta Lake. He said last year a man drowned while being baptized.
