We’ll ensure fairness, equitable devt of North East Region

PRESIDENT Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has reaffirmed the resolve of the government to ensure fairness and equity in the develop- ment of the newly created North East Region.

Instead of concentrating all regional institutions in the capital, he has assured the people of the region that the institutions would be sited across to enable all districts taste the much desired advancement. “We are going to spread the regional facilities all through the region, so that every aspect of the region feels part of the new development that is taking place,” he stated at a durbar of chiefs and people of Nalerigu on Thursday as part of his regional tour.

To achieve this, President Akufo-Addo appealed to them to “go about the construction of this new region with a single, undivided objective that we are going to build a great, new region” so that posterity would remember their collective efforts.

The Overlord of Mamprugu, the Nayiri, Naa Bohugu Abdulai Mahami Sheriga, thanked the President for honouring his promise to create the region, saying it was borne out of the President’s visionary and sterling leadership. Similarly, the Overlord of Mamprugu thanked President Akufo-Addo for the award of Janga-Na- sia-Kparigu road for construction and ongoing construction works on Walewale, Gambaga and Nalerigu town roads. “It is my conviction that similar works would be done in Bunkpurugu, Chereponi.

Thank you for the intervention in the road sector in the North East Region,” he stated. As part of the visit, President Akufo-Addo commissioned the Sakogu Community Day Senior High School, and a 120-bed capacity dormitory for the Nakpanduri Senior High School. He also presented eight vehicles, comprising three Nissan Patrol SUVs and five pickup vehicles to the North East Regional Co-ordinating Council to facilitate their work. In Bunkpurugu, the President inspected ongoing works on the bitumen surfacing of the 6.1 kilometer town roads of which contract was awarded in November 2018, and expected to be completed in 18 months.
