My songs are inspired by Ghana – DJ Cuppy reveals

Undoubtedly one of the best DJ’s on the continent, DJ Cuppy has revealed that all the songs she has made were inspired by Ghana.

She noted that the drums used to make her instrumentals were drawn from the Ghanaian indigenous drum line.

Cuppy made this revelation on the Starr Drive with KOD and Cookie Tee.

She disclosed that her latest song ‘Abena’ featuring Ghana’s Kwesi Arthur and Nigeria’s Ceeza Milli and Shaydee was “written, recorded, and video shot in Ghana.”

Touching on her first single featuring Nigeria’s Tekno she said: “Me and Tekno recorded ‘green light’ and we really were inspired by the drum pattern that Ghana has ‘ponpon’, and that’s how we got it.”



She said “I have this argument with Nigerians, and I don’t care, I love my Nigerians, but our music is inspired by Ghana and we need to acknowledge that.”

Cuppy waded into conversations bothering on a certain sense of similarity between Ghanaian and Nigerian music. According to her, the latter gets inspiration from the former, while some other personalities think otherwise.

It can be recalled that Mr Eazi commented on this issue, generating a steer and backlash on social and traditional media.

Ghanaian rapper EL also said Ghanaian musicians needed to stop copying Nigerian music.

Cuppy as she prefers to be called is currently promoting her new song titled ‘Abena’.
