Shatta, Stonebwoy were both winners, announcing Song, Artiste of the Year awards was a ‘no-no’, – Sefa Kayi reveals

Co-Mcee for the just ended Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, Kwame Sefa Kayi has confirmed two of the biggest awards; Song of the Year and Artiste of the Year, were ‘held up’ at the just ended VGMA to avoid any further chaos particularly because both artistes who had been named for the awards had been involved in some raucous on the night.

The two awards were skipped on the night and the final award, Artiste of the decade announced and bestowed on Musician and Rapper, Sarkodie.

This was after the chaos that was sparked on the night after Stonebwoy mounted the stage with his team to receive the Raggae/Dancehall Artiste award for the fifth time in a row at the VGMAs.

Speaking on Okay FM, Kwame Sefa Kayi who has previously expressed disappointment in the unwarranted conduct of both artistes said the awards had to be put off to avoid any further trouble at the event.

“It was intentional. There were two awards left, Song of the year and Artiste of the year, one was for Shatta, one for Stonebwoy, there was no way we could have announced that, because if you call one out and things escalate, what would we do? So we had to suspend both and go ahead to pronounce the Artiste of the decade, that was the final award”, he said.
