Details of how policeman received GHC2k bribe to release suspect arrested with narcotics

The Western Regional Police Command has made available details of how General Sergeant Augustine Owusu Ansah of Assin Fosu Division has been embroiled in a bribery scandal and is currently under police investigations.

According to checks by MyNewsGh.com, the Central Regional Police Commander DCOP/Mr. Paul Awini has since referred the beleaguered cop with service number 45533 to police investigators in respect of a video that has gone viral depicting him allegedly receiving cash of GH¢2000.00 from suspects arrested by him for peddling in narcotics.

According to the facts of the case, on May 19, 2019, at about 12 midnight Sergeant Augustine Owusu Ansah arrested suspect Ibrahim Issaka with two small sachets of powdered substance in white polythene suspected to be Indian hemp from suspect’s place of abode.

The Suspect was detained by the Sergeant at Nyabrem police station under Assin Fosu District.

Between 7:30 am and 8.00 am the following day, the Sergeant met suspects Nana Yaw Ankobea, Richard Sam, Abdul Wahab Yussif and “Element” at Total “2” fuel station, Assin Fosu from where they went into a nearby restaurant where the Sergeant took cash of GH¢2,100.00 from suspect Richard Sam with the promise of releasing suspect Ibrahim Issaka.

Subsequently, the Sergeant went with suspect Nana Yaw Ankobea in a taxi to Nyabrem police station and released suspect Ibrahim Issaka to suspect Nana Yaw Ankobea.

Suspect Abdul Wahab Yussif did the video with the intention of using it in the future to prove to their friends who contributed the amount that indeed the amount was handed over actually to the Sergeant but unfortunately got leaked and went viral.

It emerged that friends of the suspect had solicited funds in order to meet the demands of the policeman with the following contributing to make up the total amount.

1. Ibrahim Issaka = GH¢600.00

2. Abdul Wahab Yussif = GH¢200.00

3. Kobby(Student) = GH¢920.00

4. Nana Yaw Ankobea GH¢380.00

It was revealed that the Sergeant immediately told the suspects that he was removing GH¢100 for fuel.
