NDC’s planned demonstration against EC was senseless and lawless – Wontumi

The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Bernard Antwi Boasiako aka Chairman Wontumi has described the move by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to have demonstrated against the Electoral Commission (EC) as senselessness borne out of lawlessness.

“There has not been any sense in all of their demonstrations so far in the country” Chairman Wontumi revealed in an interview with Kumasi-based Nhyira Fm monitored by MyNewsGh.com.

“The NDCs were right at the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting and agreed on the said limited registration. For we the NPP, all that we await is the registration to begin”, he stressed.

The Ashanti Regional chapter of the NDC had earlier said in a statement that it will go on a protest dubbed “Ye Npene/Baa Mu Yada march on June 3, 2019 in opposition to the intended district based online registration of voters by the Electoral Commission.

The Ashanti Regional police command, which was expected to provide security for the protest march, however, secured a court injunction restraining the NDC from the exercise after pointing to logistical challenges due to this year’s Ramadan festivities.

But the NDC served notice with or without court injunction we will still demonstrate to defy court restrain”.

However,\ in his interview, Mr. Bernard Antwi Boasiako stated that NDC can decide not to take part in the registration exercise which has since been postponed over litigation indicating that it will make Ghanaians believe that indeed they are serious with what they say.

According to him, the NDC is fond of boycotting events but they end up participating describing them as a bunch of confused persons.
