Most of Akufo-Addo’s women appointees are blockheaded – Asiedu Nketia

General Secretary of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has alleged that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo deliberately appointed some members of the fairer sex to positions of higher authority in his administration just to sully the image of women.

According to him, the president purposely appointed Tiwaa Addo Danquah to head the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of Ghana Police Service and Mrs. Jean Mensa as the chairperson for Electoral Commission (EC), to portray the false impression of a government that is gender-sensitive, eventhough he (the president) considered them to be “blockheads”.

Commenting on the arrest of the party’s National Chairman Ofosu Ampofo and President Nana Addo’s recent submission on women empowerment at a Conference in Canada, in an interview on Okay FM’s Ade Akye Abia Morning Show, the NDC Chief Scribe accused President Akufo-Addo of really not having the interest of Ghanaian women at heart regarding such appointments.

“I believe that President Akufo-Addo himself does not have the interest of Ghanaian women at heart because in the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks; which is why the President said Ghanaian women are not pushing and knocking hard enough. He cunningly portrays himself as someone who has the best interest of women. Have you seen how he embarrassed himself in Canada? Because what he said about Ghanaian women is exactly his thoughts,” he asserted.

General Mosquito, as he is affectionately called in political circles, maintained that President Akufo-Addo “deliberately selects some women who are block-headed and hand over positions to them and when they fail, he turns around to say on international platforms that Ghanaian women lack drive and dynamism”.

To him, it will be best if all gender-based groups in the country rise up against the President for appointing such mediocre women to key positions of trust.

“…it is time for the gender groups to rise up against the President….they should make Ghanaians believe that when women are appointed, they can do the work better than men and that the person who is appointing women should know that there are better women in the country than those block-headed women he is deliberately appointing….

“deep within President Akufo-Addo, he does not believe in Ghanaian women as he has been portrayed. He only chooses women who are block-headed so that we can have bad examples of women who have failed in their positions, so that Ghanaians will get upset and he will then say that he would have appointed more women but they are not performing,” he added.
