At least three persons have been confirmed dead in another fatal accident on the deadly Odumase krobo to Oterkpolu Road in the Eastern Region.
The accident which occurred Tuesday night around 10:3pm comes on the back of a similar fatal accident on Saturday which claimed seven lives with 54 others seriously injured.
According to the Public Relations Officer of the Eastern Regional Police Command ,DSP Ebenezer Tetteh ,a Kia Mighty Truck with Registration Number AW 350-Z loaded with 70 bags of salt from Ada in the Greater Accra Region to Akanteng in the Upper Manya Krobo district of the Eastern driven by Gazo Michael ,38, and boarded by three Mates-Charles Okutu, 32, Michael ,24 , and Lamptey,30. On reaching the Ayemesu stretch of the Odumase -Krobo to Oterkpolu road while descending the hill, it suddenly veered off the road and run into a tree at the nearside of the road killing the driver and his two mates.
Charles okutu, who was sitting on top of the load survived but with minor injury on his waist. He has been treated and discharged by Medical Doctors at St.Martins Deporres Hospital.
Bodies of the three deceased persons have also been deposited at the Atua Government Hospital.
Fix road safety infrastructure on dangerous Oterkpolu -Odumase Road- NRSA
The National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) has meanwhile recommended to the Ghana Highways Authority to improve the safety management infrastructure on the Odumase krobo to Oterkpolu Road in the Eastern Region to curb the increasing spate of fatalities on the road.
The Authority wants crash barrier and warning signs erected particularly at the steep – Sharp curve of the Asitey junction stretch of the road.
The Odumase to Otorkpolu road is one of the accident prone roads in the Eastern Region killing dozens of people just his year. Most of the accidents occurred on that section of the road.
On June 15,2019 around 7pm a Bus with registration number GV 2497 14 belonging to the Volta River Authority carrying 61 parishioners of the Santa Barbara Catholic church in Akosombo was involved in fatal accident while returning from a funeral at Akim Oda .
The Bus reportedly failed break and run into a ditch in an attempt to negotiate the sharp curve.
Two of the Victims were on Tuesday June 19,2019 refereed to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital while 6 with fractured bones were taken to St Joseph hospital. Six are still on admission at St.Martins Depores Hospital, 14 others on admission at the Eastern Regional Hospital-Koforidua. Meanwhile a total of 14 have been discharged. The survivors include a 6 month old baby who was miraculously rescued unhurt, and his Mother.
